Upper reaches are narrow, often improved, and mostly flow through pastures. As the Green flows toward the Wisconsin River, it deepens and widens. Most of the river is easily accessed because the roads tend to run in the river valley. The catch and release area is often crowded but I've had many days in other areas without seeing another angler.

A lot of work has been done. It is always a good idea to look for "lunker structures" especially when the lunkers are placed after a pool. The improvements have probably helped to increase natural reproduction. Since the planting of wild fish from nearby streams, the Big Green has been self-sustaining.
