Went to the Swamp today to check out and do some trimming and rebuilding of a ground blind for deer hunting. As I was pruning I heard wood duck squealing from a little pond about 25 yards from the stand so I crept over and sure enough the pond was loaded with woodies chasing around and talking like crazy. Luckily I had my waterfowl gear in the car from hunting the past few weeks so I walked the 1/4 mile out, grabbed the gun, shells and ghillie jacket and went back in. I got within 5 yards of the ponds edge when the first bird finally spotted me and all heck broke loose. Shot 3 times and quickly slid a 4th shell in and wound up harvesting 3 woodies. 2 drakes and a hen. There were at least 30 ducks in this small pond, in fact while I was attempting to retrieve the closest bird more ducks were taking off from under overhanging brush. Quite a surprise when I wasn't even there to hunt ducks.
